A nineteen year old man was just arrested after barricading himself inside his house to hide from the police. This generally isn't the most effective way to evade the cops I would have to say. After a while, the swat team had to come in and persuade him to surrender, which he finally did.
I was reading this news, and all the man was guilty of was having marijuana and paraphernalia, and having the intent to sell it, but that really isn't that big of a crime. I don't see why you would barricade yourself in your house and go through all that effort when that is all you did. Now he will be facing a lot worse charges most likely from his actions than he would have originally. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

Hogan divorce
I just heard this news, and it's not Tampa, but it's close enough. Supposedly, Hulk Hogan's wife just filed for divorce, and he didn't even find out until the reporters told him. I'm sure he was rather shocked when he heard the news.
I was surprised too. Celebrities getting divorced is commonplace in our society, but these two have been together quite a while. I heard they have been having arguments about raising children and other stuff, but this is still surprising for me. I hear about their son, Nick, in the news all the time for traffic violations but not any other of the family usually.

Kids looking for riches find something unexpected
In the Tampa-Riverview area, some teens were looking for some riches that they heard in a tale that a boy claimed to have buried under a bridge, so they went looking for them. While digging, they didn't find the riches, but they found something else instead. It was far from what they were looking for though. They struck and broke an ammonia pipeline, and one got serious burns on his body. Also the area was shut down for quite some time.
The boys are now either facing criminal charges or have a good chance of facing them it appears. That is a very costly mistake that they in no way meant to do. After looking for treasure, the situation turned ugly real fast. The originator of the story is no longer alive to question, but there is most like no treasure buried there anyways. I feel sorry for the boys involved in this exploration.

New Devil Ray's staduim
There are plans to build a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, which is planned to be created on St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront. There have been plans for this for quite a while, but many details have been becoming more clear over time. Some details still have yet to be revealed, but they will come out over time.
This new stadium should prove to be a good stimulator of the economy for the Tampa and St. Petersburg area from all the job opportunities it will provide. There should be many thousands of jobs in the area for construction of the stadium, and then over two thousand permanent jobs upon completion. Tropicana field is not very old, and it is a pretty nice stadium, so I don't see why they feel the need to build a new one. However, it should end up being good for the local economy in the long run.

Fake leg found on the beach
It's not often that you find an artificial leg washed up on the beach with a sock and shoe, but one was just found in Pinella's county. A college student was the finder of this rare oddity. I'm sure he got quite a surprise when he found such an object.
I don't know how someone would lose there leg and leave it on the beach or have it fall off in the ocean. I guess they might find out the story and who it belongs to since they are advertising it in the local newspaper hoping to find the rightful owner. I have never seen such a story as this, but hopefully the owner sees the ad for his leg and gets it back.

Music and Video piracy...USF's action
It looks once again like the movie industry is attempting to fight piracy now just like the music industry has been working to accomplish for years. I recently found an article in the news about file sharing and peer-to-peer networks at colleges.
Universities are a very popular place for these illegal file sharing activities, and they are the new target to single out for putting an end to piracy. There is a new bill that would make colleges have a plan to fight such illegal activities if it gets passed.
I really don't think there will be much progress made to stop piracy. It has grown out of control, and I don't see it coming to an end any time soon. I know that my college, The University of South Florida in Tampa has taken action by promoting the Ruckus software. I think this software allows students to download music and movies, but it is in a format that isn't compatible with ipods and other mp3 players. I don't think this has had much success though, but it may catch on after a while.

Tampa Bay Bucs
I'm surprised the Bucs are doing as well as they are this year. They started off great, but then they got hit hard with some key injuries, but they are still above .500, which isn't all too bad. This week is their bye week, and they go into it with a decent start to the season and the usual rock solid defense.
Even with all the injuries, they are still 5-4, and much of that comes from their great defense. Even though they have lost some stars from their superbowl days, they still keep up one of the best defenses in the league. It will be interesting to see how they finish the season.

More House Inspections
Millions of dollars and months of time have been inspecting homes in Florida to see if they can withstand a hurricane, but the results of many came back to confuse them. There were a lot of discrepancies with the reviews, so they are now looking into performing a third review on the houses in question.
These houses that can withstand hurricanes according to the inspections can qualify for discounts for insurance, but, of course, they want to make sure they only approve the proper candidates. They want to make sure they have the best information, so who knows how many inspections they will end up doing.

Nick Bollea....In news again
It seems like all the time when I'm reading the local news here, Hulk Hogan's son, Nick Bollea, is in their somewhere. Recently he has filled the pages because of a car crash that Happened in August, and he is still pending charges. I believe this time he was racing against a viper in his supra, but it's always something.
I know he is a celebrity and they always get special treatment, but are they ever going to actually punish him? He is always in the news for reckless driving, and it doesn't appear like it is going to stop anytime soon. It may since the passenger this time was nearly killed and now has serious affects from the crash. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Killing Koi?
A couple teens recently got busted dumping detergent into a koi pond with intent to kill all of the fish. This had happened twice before to the man, and he decided to set up a video camera to catch the suspects. It was successful, and the two teens have been clearly identified. They are minors, but they may be facing felony charges for their actions.
I think they should face the felony charges and live up to what they did. If they don't get the consequences, they won't learn. Who does this anyway? Who purposely kills fish just for the "fun" of it? I don't get it; people need to get what's coming to them after stupid stunts like that.

USF vs Cincinnati
This should be a great game. USF vs Cincinnati in college football. USF has had an amazing season so far that nobody was expecting, but it appears they are cooling off a bit after a hot streak. Cincinnati is underrated in my opinion, though, and I think it will be close. I'm going to have to call USF by a small margin. Looks like Ohio State won another game as usual. This has turned out to be an interested season for college football.

Shooting at my apartment complex
So now who lives in the hood? I guess I do. I live in the Campus Lodge college student apartment complex, and just got the details about a burglary that happened here. If it wasn't such a serious issue, it would be a comical story. Three guys knocked on a resident's door, then asked for a made-up person. After that, they proceeded to rob him, and supposedly offered to sell him mushrooms at a later date. They pepper sprayed him and then took off, but they pretty much missed his eyes. Right after they left he ran to his room to get a rifle he had, and then he stormed after them. That takes some serious balls if I do say so myself. Some cops saw him shooting at a car and pulled up to him. He told them they robbed him, and the police chased the men and eventually caught all three. I never get visitors, so I never answer the door anyways, but now I'm going to make sure to look through the peep hole before I do.
